Research

Given the great array of species that we hold, zoos are certainly a source of information on biology, and thus we are at the full disposal of the scientific community, by collaborating in studies that will emerge as a better understanding of the animal kingdom.

Over the last decade numerous different investigations belonging to different fields of study have been developed in zoos. Studies on animal behavior, breeding habits of endangered species, phisiology, parasitology, nutrition, pathology, genetics…

All this knowledge acquired in captivity may as well help saving endangered species in the wild, for part of this research cannot be carried out in those wild habitats, especially in those which are in decline, or in the cases in which the species’ wild populations are hard to observe.
