Blackbucks have a slender body, with long, thin legs, looking much like a gazelle. Only the males have horns, which are screw-shaped and emerge backwards in a V shape from behind the ears.

It is a fast animal, highly gregarious and naturally suspicious or distrustful. When one individual gets spooked, immediately the whole group hops and runs away together. Blackbucks also have a very good sight.

Their habits are sedentary, unless in search of food or water. They inhabit semi-deserts and are native to India and Nepal, although populations have been introduced into Argentina and Texas as well.
